Coming this fall Lotro (Lord of the Rings Online) will be Free 2 Play - no fees, charges, recurring fees at all. Some in-game features, classes, and regions are available to purchase, but the main game, and weeks, if not months of great adventuring are totally free. This decision is based on the very popular DDO (Dungeons and Dragons Online) model that went F2P several months ago and is another Turbine product.
I have played Lotro for over 3 years consistently (yes it's possible to play more than one game at a time  , and highly recommend this. If you enjoyed the Tolkein books of Middle Earth or loved the Peter Jackson movies you should try this out. Beta signups are available now. The graphics rival anything out there currently and this is an amazing MMO. If anyone wants to try it let me know, I can talk about it with amazing detail.
