It's a little buggy, but nothing overexcessive. I'd say average for a beta. However, with the amount of work the dev's put into it, the game is truly OUTSTANDING!

I'm disappointed at the following from there FAQ:

"III.4 Will there be a lobby where you can select your loadout, prepare strategies with your lance and such? Or will you just join a server, spawn on a map and go inside the vehicles you want just like you will in QW?
A: No. Since we’ve really dedicated ourselves to not simply recreating MechWarrior, the whole procedure of modifying your mech will be far different. You must proceed by any mean to capture a mech factory where at which time you may purchase a Mech (depending on the amounts of funds you currently have). Once the mech has been purchased you may change some of the modular equipment on your chosen mech. Since the purchased vehicle will have a unique code for you to enter you do not have to worry about a team-mate stealing your hard earned equipment. You will still have to look out for enemies who may hack your code on your vehicles and take them for their own use."

It looks like in the beginning you are infantry with selectable weapons. To develop an arsenal of actual mechs by purchasing them could take a considerable amount of time. I admit that the mod looks amazing and I have seen several YouTube videos. But, I'm not interested in a First Person Shooter to start out with too much work involved to actually getting a mech...not to mention others will start out without mechs and having an actual all mech battle (or at least the possibility of an all mech battle) seems like far down the road.

I'll still buy Crysis and check it out, but this prolly won't be the avenue I go down for my mech fix. I'll still be waiting for the Free Release and MP4 as I know I can have access to all mechs, weapons and electronics from the get go.

Fireball, please give us specifics about the game and appreciate your feedback! You're, so far, the only one in Sentinel that I know about that has downloaded, installed and played the mod. Let us know!

I read about this months ago and was pretty turned off by the lack of focus on actual mech combat.
MW4 in it's current evolution is about the nuances of battlemech piloting in all manner of fire fights using customized loadouts. The ease of jumping in and out of the mechlab and then immediatly into a server and into the fray is part of why I'm still playing. I'm not too interested in performing all sorts of FPS somersaults just to get into a cockpit.
The trailer sure looks cool, though. The elementals are impressive.
Maybe I'd feel differently if I had a system that would run Crysis and played it all the time. As it is, Mercs is the only computer game I play and if MWLL was a new cutting edge version of that, I'd upgrade immediately.
Oh well.
I'm looking forward to MP4 and the free release.

need reviews! I need to know whether to buy Crysis or not. I understand you need Crysis Maximum? which is about $39 online. I'm favoring paying out my Star Trek Online preorder over getting Crysis because of the lack of available mechs and weapons at the start. Anyone played it? Is my fears true? You can't access all mechs and weapons from the beginning in multiplayer?

First off, the FAQ has not been updated in a long time. The website admins know this, and have stated they've been focusing more on the game's development, than the website. The forums are a much better place to get info. on gameplay. Which brings me to:

The gameplay. There is no mechlab for the beta, so you're stuck with the stock vehicles, but you don't need to go off and capture a mech factory to build a mech. Each team starts with 1 or 2 mech factories, depending on the map. Some maps also have an airfield for VTOL's/aerospace, and both the airfield and mech factories are spawn points. You can change this point any time in the game, if you want to switch from mech's, to aerospace, or you can simply walk to the nearest one.

Everybody starts over at the beginning of a game, with 20000 C-Bills. You can buy a decent array of light mechs, tanks, and aerospace. As you inflict damage, you earn more C-Bills. You also get promoted based on your damage output, which raises your starting money once you get killed. There are also servers that have somehow been modified so you can buy whatever you want, right off the bat. I would not worry about having to earn your right to be in a mech. You have that option from the start.

Next...balance. So far everything has been well balanced out, even the battle armor. It's like a great game of rock/paper/scissors. Aerospace are devastating against mechs, and some vehicles, but are weak against tanks that are designed for anti-aircraft use, such as the Partisan. Just like real life air combat, you learn to stay the hell away from AAA and SAM sites. Mechs are great against vehicles, but have a lot of trouble with aerospace, because you simply cannot look straight up. If an aerospace is divebombing you, there isn't much you can do except don't stand still, and pray a Partisan is near you. Tanks are great against aerospace and battle armior, but can only do a limited amount against mechs. BA is mostly a harassment, but swarms of BA over a mech or tank can take it down quickly. Overall the game feels very well balanced, with the weapons and vehicle choices.

On to teamwork. This was the primary focus when the concept behind MWLL was designed. You simply can no longer just go off and become a loner, clearing enemies one by one. You may be able to pull that off in a small game, but not in a large 20+ player MWLL match. The teams that work together well, and combine their assets, have always come out on top. MWLL has the level of teamwork equivalent to a game of Tribes 2, and actually feels a little similar in regards to gameplay. Just with BattleTech, so...epic win! Just the other day, I was piloting an aerospace loaded with 2 tbolt missiles, but you only get 1 shot. Once your 2 missiles have been fired, it's time to RTB and buy more ammo. So you gotta make those 2 shots count. Anyway, my teammates were using the tag laser to designate a target, calling out what sector they were in, and I would swoop in full-afterburner, drop my tbolts, and then get more ammo. I've seen aerospace pilots working together, with 1 bombing, and the other clearing the skies for him. I've seen elementals band together to bring down a Mad Cat, and vehicles in front of mechs to take down aerospace trying to bomb them. All this within a week of the beta coming out. I'll reemphasize, teamwork is essential!

The maps are well-designed, the music is awesome on the menus, and the sound effects are superb! Spend the $20 or less on Crysis from the store, or online. I've already grown to love the beta, even though it has a lot of bugs. The devs have already released 1 hot fix, and they play in-game with us, giving us tips, and bug hunting just as much as we are.

I strongly recommend trying to out. It's a different type of MW game, but it still feels like MW, just on a grand scale.

*Also Coolant, you only need plain vanilla Crysis.

sounds like a good mod, but tank and planes on the battlefield, to me, just isn't like Mercs. I know it is a part of Battletech, but it is too foreign to me after playing Mercs for 5 years. I, of course, would encourage everyone to try it, but it's something I am gonna pass on, and so, as a unit, we won't officially be playing it. However, nothing is stopping members from playing together. It's just that we won't be switching over to MWLL from Mercs as a unit. Along with playing Mercs, I also play Lord of the Rings Online and in about a month Star Trek Online so adding another game into the mix just isn't possible at this time.

Thx for the info!
